Power converter modules for airforce applications

Viable Power’s design process starts with using industry standard power converter modules from a broad range of renowned manufacturers and developing a custom power supply solution that addresses all our customer requirements.

The company performs rigorous quality inspections during the manufacturing phase, followed by a series of performance tests including thermal cycling and vibration. This allows us to deliver a quality product that will perform for many years.

Our 7,500ft² facility features production equipment including wave solder and printed circuit board washing machinery, wire cutting, stripping and crimping machines and electronic microscope inspection tools.

In addition, our Automated Test Equipment (ATE) allows us to test a power supply unit with up to 8 output channels. We can perform onsite vibration testing with our electrodynamic vibration system and environmental testing with our high ramp rate temperature cycling and humidity test chambers.

Custom AC-DC power supply units

Viable Power has extensive experience designing custom AC-DC power supplies for airborne, naval and ground defense applications, with power capabilities ranging from 20W to multiple KW.

We design AC-DC power supplies operating from three phase 115V, 400Hz sources and from single phase 115V, 60Hz sources. All units produced by Viable meet the input requirement of MIL-STD-704 or RTCA DO-160 for airborne and MIL-STD-1399 for shipboard.

Our AC-DC power supplies include custom or standard EMI filters, rectifiers, and power factor correction units with high input voltage DC-DC modules from well-known manufacturers. We can custom design and package solutions to meet the unique demands of the airforce industry.

Custom DC power supply units for defence forces

Viable Power designs custom DC-DC power supply units with power capabilities from 5W to over 2KW. Our DC-DC power supplies normally operate from 28V sources, but we can also design for 48V, 72V and 270V input voltages for airforce applications.

We include a custom designed or standard EMI filter module in our DC-DC units. Other input circuitry may include inrush current limiting, reverse polarity protection and bulk internal capacitance. Uniquely packaged and designed to meet our customer requirements, our DC-DC power supplies can withstand temperature, altitude and vibration.

Viable Power’s custom DC-DC power supplies are designed to meet the input requirements of MIL-STD-1275 for ground vehicles, MIL-STD-704 or RTCA DO-160 for airborne, or any other requirement for any application.

Our team are experienced in mechanical and electronic assembly techniques, from component and wire preparation, hand and wave soldering, crimping, cleaning, adhesive applications, potting and coating.

Production staff are trained as per IPC-J-STD-001, with all work performed to Class 3 levels. Every mechanical assembly is done in accordance with the guidelines of MIL-HDBK-454 and certified inspectors perform inspection to IPC-A-610 Class 3.
