The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a potential foreign military sale (FMS) of F-16 sustainment support to Belgium.
Approved by the US State Department, the estimated value of the sale and associated equipment is approximately $127m.
The additional F-16 Fighting Falcon sustainment support requested by the Belgian Government will be added to a previously implemented case.
The original $98.4m sale package involved F-16 sustainment comprising of AN/ARC-210 radios, computer programme identification numbers, classified software, electronic warfare database support, support equipment, software integration support, and aircraft and munitions support, as well as test support and equipment.
In a press statement, DSCA said: “The proposed sale will improve Belgium’s capability to meet current and future threats by maintaining its F-16 fleet in combat-ready status and providing rotational forces to Nato’s Eastern flank.”
Principal contractor for the new FMS is Lockheed Martin, Bethesda, Maryland.
Separately, the DSCA also notified Congress of another potential FMS of C-17 Globemaster aircraft sustainment support and associated materials to the UAE.
This $980.4m sale has also been approved by the US State Department.
The prime contractor will be The Boeing Company, Chicago, Illinois.
The agency in a statement said: “The proposed renewal of C-17 aircraft support will provide the Government of the UAE with a credible defence capability, provide strategic and humanitarian airlift, and ensure interoperability with US forces.”
The two FMSs will see the US provide government and contractor engineers, studies and surveys, technical and logistics support services, classified and unclassified publications, technical documentation and other associated logistical and programme support elements.
